Does it work in Windows?

Try downloading K3B and associated programs to see if that fixes it (unless you are ALREADY using K3B and it is from there that it disappeared...:0

I have kb3 installed but the drive is not shown anywhere either in k3b or listed under drives:/. It works in windows all the time and it has worked in linux but it seems to have disappeared. However it is shown under file:/media but if i click on that even when a disk is in the drive it says:
Could not enter folder /media/dvdrecorder.

Have you tried doing

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

or

mount /dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1

as root to see if you can get any access to it at all?

BTW K3B needs extra programs along with it to work. If you get *just* K3B (literally only the K3B archive) it wont ever work - you need the extra packages listed on the K3B website...

sarge extreme - while it can be frustrating to not receive an immediate response please keep in mind that the LQ membership is worldwide, and sometimes it takes time before a reply is received. Thanks -- J.W.
