DVD RW mounts and shows files but can't read

My DVD RW will mount, shows me the title, and will even display directories, and will even read some files like plain text or small png's, but won't read anything else.

It works fine in Windows.

I've had this problem with data cd's and DVD's.

Yes, the discs are fine.

System: Kubuntu Fiesty
DVD drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A 1.02

Here's what Linux has to say:

cdrecord -scanbus

I know there are two cdrom0 entries in there, Kubuntu does that every time I go into the control panel.

I think the problem started when I upgraded to Fiesty. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!

The first 2 lines of the dmesg output give you the error. For some reason the SCSI subsystem doesn't work properly. Try an online update of your system.

Thanks for your reply! My system is fully up to date; turns out that's the problem. This is a documented bug. Hopefully they'll fix it soon!
