DVD-RW drives, do they all work with Linux?

DVD-RW drives, do they all work with Linux?
I am currently running RH AS 3.0 Kernal 2.4.21-15
The drive that will go into the server is a
HP 8X slim DVD+RW drive.
Will this particular drive work with Linux?

thanks in advance for your help.
