Unhappy dvd-rom drive won't play movies and dvd burner won't record

Hi

I am using mandrake 10 offical. My DVD-/+RW drive will not play dvd movies or burns cds or dvds. I ran the command dmesg and this was the output:

ATAPI device hdd:
Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02)
Incompatible medium installed -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read Cd/Dvd Capacity" packet command was:
"25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

and when I run cdrecord -scanbus the output is:

Linux sg driver version: 3.5.30
Using libscg version 'schily-0.8'.
cdrecord: Warning: using inofficial libscg transport code version (warly-scsi-linux-sg.c-1.80-mdk '@(#)scsi-linux-sg.c1.80 04/03/08 Copyright 1997 J. Schilling').

it doesn't pick up my drives. What is wrong and how can I fix it?

I added:

hdd=ide-scsi cdrom=ide-scsi cdrom1=ide-scsi

to the append line of my lilo.conf file, now cdrecord -scanbus picks them up, but no program can read the media I put in. So I still can't burn cds or read noramal cd even.

someone please help me here.

Noah
