DVD Re-Writeable

Sorry for the stupid question. All my computers are so old I have never used a DVD. Are DVD's rewriteable like CDRoms? If so, what is the software I need to do this. Thanks.

At the risk of stating the obvious, apart from the hardware, you would also need to be using DVD-RW blanks or DVD+RW blanks. -- J.W.
