DVD Drives - Dual Layer or double layer?

What's the difference between dual layer and double layer DVD recording drives? Everything I read they are the same thing but different manufactures use both terms. I want to get the Lite On SOHW1633s drive but I want to know if it will record the 8.5 GB capacity. Thanks

Double layer definitely stands for the capability of the drive to write 8,5 media
Dual layer should mean the drive is capable to write either DVD-R and DVD+R media. This is more often defined as dual standard.
Hope this helps

Pretty sure the difference is actually the terms used by the 2 competing standards. +R calls it double layer and -R calls it dual layer.

Either way they both just allow data to be written to about 8.5GB, approximately twice that of standard DVD's.
