I have had a Sony DVD burner installed on my system for about a month now. I had no problem getting it recognized and have been using it off and on. I disabled kudzu not long after installing it because I was having a problem with the new Fedora kernels indefinately lagging when running kudzu on startup. I think this may be the problem but I am not sure. I am afraid to add kudzu to my startup again for fear of my system not ever booting again but I want my DVD burner to burn again.

I also just put a second harddrive in my computer and I can't find it anywhere when I run:

Try loading the generic ide module

modprobe ide-generic

This did it for me on Kernel 2.6.7 when it wasn't being detected anymore.

modprobe couldn't find ide-generic yet I found /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-1.521/drivers/ide/ide-generic.c when running "locate ide-generic". I don't know how to install modules myself so I am lost at this point.

The problem was when I took kudzu out of startup services. I fixed it.

Now I need to solve my other problem: My yum-updated kernels not loading
