DVB-T card ,Installing , please help!, Leadtek LR6650

To cut to the chase, im a newbie been playing with fedora 3 for the past week or so and have manged to suss most things out but im having a real hard time trying to get my dvb-t card up and running in linux.

PC Specs, Asus A7n8x Deluxe Rev2, Athlon XP 3200+(Barton), 1024MB PC3200ram.....

The card i have was a cheap one from e-bay but its a common chipset apaprently and ive seen reports of people getting it to work no problem.

The specs for it are
TV Tuner Thomson 7578
Video Decoder Conexant CX23881 PCI Audio/Video Broadcast Decoder
COFDM Demodulator/Decoder Conexant CX22702

The first thing i did was install a Video4Linux driver, i used an rpm from atrpm repos
kernel-module-cx88-2.6.9-1.667-0.0.4_20041005_125709-53.rhfc3.at.i686.rpm

However after doing so it would seem that probably wasnt necessary as 2.6.9 kernel already has a driver?
In Fedora Hardware manager the card is now listed twice under capture devices :/
Once as the original Conexant Winfast Tv2000 XP
and now also as Conexant: Unknown device 8802 (after installing that rpm :/ )

My next step was to try Myth TV, it doesnt seem to find the card, so i was told to try TvTime...
Loaded it up and it does seem to mention DVB, but no tuning info....

Fallen asleep yet?
Next i went to linuxtv.org and compiled the dvb apps to get scan to scan for dvb-t channels....

final hiccup,
./scan dvbscan /dvb-t/uk-Mendip
scanning dvbscan
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
main:1882: FATAL: failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0': 2 No such file or directory

I dont seem to have a dvb dir under dev :/
Im guessing i need to run modprobe with the right string to add it?!? and then add that to /etc/modprobe ? But like i say im a newb and totally stuck now heh.

All help greatfully appreciated and will contribute to the regrowth of my hair!

I am new to the linuxtv driver as well and am struggling with it right now but I will try to help as best I can.
There is a shell script 'MAKEDEV-DVB.sh' that you can run to create the devices.
Hope that will do it!

Hi, thanks for the reply

found the script and ran it but got this error

sudo sh MAKEDEV-DVB.sh
Creating DVB devices in /dev/dvb/adapter0
chown: `root.video': invalid group
Creating DVB devices in /dev/dvb/adapter1
chown: `root.video': invalid group
Creating DVB devices in /dev/dvb/adapter2
chown: `root.video': invalid group
Creating DVB devices in /dev/dvb/adapter3
chown: `root.video': invalid group

It did make the directories and add files in there but as soon as i run scan i get this

./scan -u dvbscan
scanning dvbscan
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
main:1882: FATAL: failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0': 6 No such device or address

I'm having a very similar problem. I'm running Mandrake 10.1. I was previoulsy running Mandrake 10.0, from which I upgraded using the 10.1 download official edition.

The card is listed in lspci and Hard Drake, and, unlike with Crunchie, running MAKEDEV-DVB.sh generates no errors, and appears to make the appropriate directories. However, scandvb generates error 6 ("no such device or address") as reported above.

Would this have anything to do with Mandrake moving from Devfs to uDev between versions 10.0 and 10.1, does anybody think?
