Dual Monitor / Single Desktop KDE4 on-board video & PCI nvidia card
Hi,
I'm trying get dual monitors working with my Dimension 3000. I have one monitor connected to the on-board video and a second monitor connected to my nvidia PCI card.
Via google I found accounts of people using WinXP and achieving dual monitors using a video card and the on-board video. With both monitors plugged in only the monitor connected through the nvidia has a display; If I disconnect the monitor connected to the nvidia card, the monitor connected to the on-board video will then display.
With both monitors plugged in I have run
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
but only one monitor is defined in the resulting xorg.conf.
I have installed the nvidia video drivers for my PCI card. I believe I have RandR installed. I'm on kubuntu 9.04.
I'm not sure what to do at this point; any suggestions?
This link gives good information on the setup of xorg.conf for using dual monitors. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...i=&p_topview=1
In your case, as you want to use separate graphics adaptors, then you will want to set the BusID in the device sections to point to your two adaptors. The details are highlighted in blue below.
00:02.0 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
You will also need to change to the 'vesa' or 'intel' driver for the 82865G device section.
If your nVidia adaptor has separate DVI and D-SUB connectors, then you may wish to explore running your dual monitors from the one card. I have had problems with the support for the Intel82865G chipset recently, where I ended up using the 'vesa' driver as I could not get the 'intel' driver to work.
Ya in the past I've had Nvidia cards w/ 2 outputs and just achieved dual monitors the way you suggested. Unfortunately the hardware currently at my disposal doesn't give me that option.
