Dual Monitor Setup in Linux

Hi All,

I support several RHEL 4/5 based workstations in the office with Nvidia dual-head Quadro based cards and a mixed CRT-CRT, CRT-LCD or LCD-LCD monitor combinations. I've noticed, on more than one occasion, that one of the monitors, regardless of the type (LCD or CRT) or position (left or right) is not as clear or sharp as the other. The resolutions are the same as well.

In all occasions there is a kvm connecting at least one or several more computers running different OS's.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Thanks

There could be a number of things as the cause of this issue, or a combination of things. I would recommend doing some experimentation, ie remove one of your KVM switches from the equation and see if that improves the second monitor quality. Try messing with the fine-tuning/clocking of the second monitor and see if that improves anything. I highly doubt it's your video card that's the problem, as nVidia cards tend to be pretty reliable regardless of the OS. Also, what driver are you using for your cards? Are you using the nVidia-produced driver or a third-party one?

No video card mfg supports the use of a KVM, get rid of if for troubleshooting purpose.
