There are only a few models, and only low end models with chips a few years old, most common are the Geforce FX5200 or Radeon 9250, but also some "newer" modells like Geforce 7200GS or Radeon HD3450.
I just gave the example from newegg, because I have seen it sometimes here on the forums. I personally never buy hardware on the Internet, but from local vendors.

well, i can say that my friend (and we're both Canadian) buys from Newegg all the time, and as far as i know, he has no hastles, so the whole "canadian thing" must have gotten sorted out...

also, my monitor had a power cable in the back (duh), as well as a cable that cannot be unplugged, but rather is part of the monitor, that is a vga cable...that is it.

i wasn't thinking of a cable that plugged vga into a monitor and s-video into a computer, i was thinking of a box sort of adapter to go from s-video to vga...not sure if it's possible. I'll check it out...

also, i got the GeForce MX440 (i think that's what it was) for free, so I'm not complaining...lol. may not be in the market for buying another graphics card...if i do, it will probably be for a better computer than the one I have ubuntu on now...right now my computer running ubuntu 10.10 is really terrible...it doesn't even have a gig of ram, and it only has a 40 gb hard drive. it also doesn't have a wireless card, which means i have to move it to a place where i can plug in en ethernet line to get internet for it.

as proof of concept, whether it works or not i don not know, but here:

just a thought...if my video card has an s-video port on it, that does mean i can use 2 monitors on it, i just can't use the onboard graphics when it's plugged in, but the card is capable of dual-monitors...(right?)

if that's so, then would i be able to pick up a VGA splitter from, like, wal-mart, for 10 bucks, and use that to plug in the 2 monitors?
hmm...

This adapter is exactly the opposite from what you need.

No, that means that your card is capable of a monitor and a TV-set. The S-Video output will be limited in the resolutions and refreshrate you can choose to the ones that are needed to support TV-standards.

I don't know, what you mean with a VGA-splitter, but if it is what I think then you will have two monitors with the same picture on it, I don't see the use of that.

ok, it's the opposite...

should have figured that one out myself...

i actually thought that might be the case...with a splitter.

if i were to buy another graphics card, how's this one

I have not used a Matrox card with Linux, but I heard that they do not really support it.
