dual monitor: different sizes??

I have a dual head videocard and have decided to use it on my slackware 9.1 machine.

Now, one of the monitors is a 17", and the other is only a 15". When they are both plugged in and I'm not in X11, it works fine. I can see the same thing on both screens. But when I enter X11, "startx", it gives me sync errors and won't load. I haven't tried to install any special software, and as for configuration just did the xf86config (no special editing for two monitors).

But before I went any further, I wanted to ask if it was even possible with two different sized monitors.

Thanks.
