Question Dual Layer DVD Burner Drives with Linux - What Works Best For You?

Hi everyone,

I am in the market for an internal dual layer DVD burner for my desktop. Does anyone have experience or knowledge on what internal dual layer DVD burners work well with Linux?

Sony and Plextor do not interest me, but other brands do.

Buffer protection is especially important to me.

I look forward to your replies!

Thanks!

They are all pretty much commodity hardware now. I have used NEC drives on all of my recent builds and have no problems burning dual layer dvds. They all seem have buffer protection at this point AFAIK.

Thumbs up Dual Layer DVD Burner Drives with Linux - What Works Best For You?

I have had good luck with Pioneer drives. I do system backups to them with dar images. The drives claim 16x writes but I usually see around 14x which is better then with DAT tape.
I am using PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drives. They work fine with Nero Linux or K3b though k3b is a bit twitchy but Nero works good. Never had a real problem. Restoring works ok as my disk crahed recently and restore worked better then I thought it would. Got the drives from
Computer geeks for ~$35.
