dual-head display not working
hi guys. can anyone tell me whats wrong here? i've posted my xorg.conf below. i'm trying to set up a dual-head display under sidux using two different monitors. the sidux installer will only detect one monitor at a time so in order to get all the settings i needed, i first installed with only monitor 1 (Samsung Syncmaster 900NF) connected and then reninstalled with only monitor 2 (Hyundai DeluxeScan 17B+). by combining info from both resulting versions of xorg.conf, i was able to produce a dual-head version with all the right info. except for one problem, its not working! monitor 1 works normally but monitor 2 just says 'out of range' as it does with the original, single head xorg.conf because the hyundai cannot handle the settings for the syncmaster. i have it working perfectly with suse 10.0 on another partition but the file is arranged differently. not sure if its a debian thing or a newer version of X11 but i've tried to edit all the same areas that were required for suse but no luck. can anyone tell me whats wrong with this:

dual-head display not working
unfortunately, my card is a radeon 7500 which is not supported by the fglrx driver so that will have to wait until i build the new box. i have heard though, that the native ati driver should support dual-head. in fact i did get it working with kanotix although with limited results. i didn't get all the monitor settings right as i have now so the second display flickered and the mouse cursor became a big square of assorted colors when i moved it to the second screen. its the same driver so i can't imagine whats wrong. with my suse install, the driver was "radeon", which worked perfectly, and i've seen forum posts for other distros where the recomended driver was also radeon so is it not available on debian systems for some reason?

well, just for fun, i changed the driver in both device sections from "ati" to "radeon" and the results were exactly the same. i then uncommented "Load dri" and tried again. this should have prevented X from starting since the radeon driver doesn't support 3d acceleration in dual-head mode but the results were exactly the same again! monitor 1 (0 actually) working and the other "out of range". its as if my xorg.conf is not being used. i'm confused.

looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, apparently i do have a radeon driver which is being loaded but that device "card1" is not being used. at one point it says:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(WW) RADEON: More than one matching Device section for instances
(BusID: PCI:1:0:0) found: Card1
beyond that, only screen0 and Card0 is being loaded. unfortunately the log file is too big to post here. if anyone can tell me the relevant parts, i will post them. thanx

ok, got it. i added "Screen 0" and "Screen 1" to the device sections and it works.
