Hey I really want to get on and install everything just how I like it on my new system... the only thing is that the ram I bought doesn´t like running in dual channel mode on my new Abit NF7-S (Nforce 2ultra chipset) motherboard.

I only have the memory running in normal mode for this reason... but I am going to take the memory back and change it.

If I compile my kernal and start installing everything is it going to screw things up when I put my new memory in? I am going to get the same speed and same size of memory 2x 256mb 400mhz (pc3200)

No, the kernel doesn't care what memory mode your chipset is in, that is a bios/chipset/memory issue.
