DRI/OpenGL - gears work, nothing else does

I have a ATI Rage Mobility 128 w/8MB of RAM and MDK 9.1. When I run the Mesa Gears/Morph programs my video works just fine. When I try to run Tuxracer or FlightGear the video crawls. Here is what my XF86config looks like:

Code:
Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "monitor1"
    VendorName "Dell"
ModelName "Dell 1024X Laptop Display Panel"

    VertRefresh 59.0-75.0

EndSection

Is it that I just have too little video memory to use these games or is there something in my config that is wrong? I've checked the dri manual and nothing there seems to help me out.
Thanks

It's probably the 8MB of video RAM. OpenGL games use a lot of video RAM so having less than 32MB usually means games crawl. Try posting the output of running glgears here just to make sure. The output should be in frames per second. If that's less than 30 fps, it's probably video RAM.

Here is the output. The first numbers are from when the gears appear in a small window and the last numbers are when I maximize the window:

Code:
529 frames in 5.0 seconds = 105.800 FPS
653 frames in 5.0 seconds = 130.600 FPS
268 frames in 5.0 seconds = 53.600 FPS
91 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18.200 FPS
90 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18.000 FPS
91 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18.200 FPS
90 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18.000 FPS
91 frames in 5.0 seconds = 18.200 FPS
106 frames in 5.0 seconds = 21.200 FPS
I guess it is the memory after all.

Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not. Try running an OpenGL game in windowed mode. I'm not sure how to do this with any particular game but there must be some game that supports it. If the game still runs really choppy then it might be something other than video RAM.
