Smile Docking Station for Linux laptop

Hi there
How does one obtain the right docking station for a Linux laptop? I dual boot Windows XP with Suse 10.0 on a HP Pavilion laptop and I need a docking station to allow all family members to use the computer. Do docking stations have to be installed on the computer as new hardware? If so, how does one get the right kind of docking station that is compatible with Linux?

Thanks for your help.
Cheers
preeth26.

Is this a USB port replicator, or one for this version that the laptop mounts into via a hardware port on the bottom of the laptop?
The USB ones usually need custom drivers so it will probibly not work. The custom hardware one should work fine. A friend of mine had to do no config at all with his Dell docking station to get it to work.

Question Docking station for linux laptop

Hi
Thanks for your response. I was not aware of the Usb replicator, so I guess I meant the regular laptop. I do not have one at the moment but was trying to find out whether a regular docking station that might work with Windows will also work on the Linux laptop. Do these docking stations require specific installation within the Linux operating system? Are you saying that your friend with the Dell laptop did not have to do anything at all, except for physically attaching the computer to the docking station?

Sorry to ask what might be an extremely naive question...

Thanks again
Preeth.

All he did was connect the laptop to the docking station and it all worked. The only problem was the audio. It worked, but the volume control was off, so there was a big differance between volume levels when it was docked or undocked, but that may spacific to that model of dock.
