Ok I did wonder why you said RAM speed. It doesn't mention it in the specs on Asus's web site, I'll have a look in the manual to make sure, thanks for the heads up though.

Having only one big module instead of two slightly slower ones will give you noticable performance impacts, since the memory controller can't use the dual-channel feature. The memory controller can handle two modules just as fast as a single module, usually the downclock of one step only happens when you use two modules per channel (at least on AMD CPUs, I couldn't find reliable data for intel CPUs on this, but I assume that it is the same for them).
