dma problems with kernel 2.6.7

i just compiled the 2.6.7 kernel the debian way. the problem is while starting my computer there is a warning message which tells me that the dma mode of my hard disk is not switched on, so the fsck process will be really slow due to that. when the machine boots i test the reading speed of the hdd with hdparm and it's something like 3 or 4MB/s. the interesting thing is that when i type hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda, the dma mode is turned on without a problem and everythings fine again, no problems. but when i reboot my machine the same thing happens again - dma has to be switched on manually. this wasn't an issue with my previous kernel 2.6.3. am i missing something, has i forgotten to compile something in. i can't post the whole .config file, so if someone has an idea, i can post the needed fragment of it. i will be very thankful if someone helps me! thanks in advance!!!

In kernel configuration (menuconfig), check that you have Device drivers --> ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support --> Use PCI DMA by default when available enabled.
