As I am a new user, I have been working around in FC5 to learn but I broke something which I cannot figure out how to fix it. I had set up my resolution to 1600x1200 and next day when I booted up it gave me the following error when I try to run "startx".

I cannot find out how to unlock or kill the x server that is running for dispaly 0. I looked at the xorg.conf file and it seems OK based on what I've read.

Now, I am stock to 800x600 and I cannot change the resolution. I cannot start another x server in the other virtual consoles either. It gives me the same error.

(ctrl + alt + F7 / F2 to change the VC and then run startx)

I did the following

I edited the inittab file to runlevel 3. I logged into the system and run the "system-config-dislay --reconfig" under root. I changed the runlevel back to 5.

Now the issue is it runs with the 1600x1200 resolution and start up the x server, but only root can log into the x server. All the other users cannot log in. the screen goes black for couple of times and then it brings back the log in screen.

What's going on now?
