disk partitioning

I have 2 pata 100 hard drives installed in my computer. I have windows installed on the first partition of the first drive. The second hard drive is plugged into a ide expansion board. I use the first partition of that drive to install all my windows program files to. This seems to have increased load times and program performance quite a bit. I was wondering if a similar scheme for linux exists and if so what it is. Thanks in advance, Jake

create your partitions & when you install programs install them to a seperate partition. or

I would suggest a partition on each disk then some sort of raid (concat/stripe). This would definitly increese disk access time. Raid 0 would give you fast access but i would suggest RAID 5 for parity, just incase.

You mean RAID1 (mirroring) since RAID5 requires a minimum of 3 disks.
