Direct port accessing

Hi all

In case I write a C code program to be compiled
to a LINUX based board, can I include C commands
to read from or write to specific ports of the
micro controller in the same manner like if the
board was bare board (OS LESS) or I must treat all
ports as they were files like LINUX demands ?

Thanks
Elico
