Digital Video Cassette for computer use

I was looking into tape drives (just as a curiosity), and it seems that most are targetted at businesses, starting at $600. I see that Wal-Mart carries all of these inexpensive video recording tapes, called DVCs. I am not very familiar with the home video recording market. Are there drives for these DVCs that are priced for consumers? Could these be used to store and retrieve any form of data?

AFAIK the stand alone digital video recorders are made for the professional market. I have not seen any consumer units but that does not mean they do not exist.

It appears you can store data on them. http://dvbackup.sourceforge.net/
