Diff. Installing nVidia drivers in Mandrake 10.0

Alright. I've tried installing according to the instructions on the nvidia website, even tried their "last ditch" instructions in the readme. Both times, installer says it can't find a module filename or something or other, doesn't install driver, and then exits out. Got this from the log file:

option status:
license pre-accepted : false
update : false
force update : false
expert : false
uninstall : false
driver info : false
no precompiled interface: false
no ncurses color : false
query latest driver ver : false
OpenGL header files : false
no questions : false
silent : false
XFree86 install prefix : /usr/X11R6

OpenGL install prefix : /usr
Installer install prefix: /usr
kernel source path : (not specified)
kernel install path : (not specified)
proc mount point : /proc
ui : (not specified)
tmpdir : /root/tmp
ftp site : ftp://download.nvidia.com

Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface
-> License accepted.
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: No)
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means
that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface.
-> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/linux'
-> Performing cc_version_check with CC="cc".
ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

Please help.

I know I've been pimping these drivers around this forum a bit lately, but have you tried the hacked NVIDIA drivers from http://minion.de/ ?

The most recent NVIDIA driver (5336) is the only one that supports the 2.6 kernel (which Mandrake 10.0 uses.) These drivers are previous NVIDIA beta releases that have been reconfigured to work with kernel 2.6, so you can try older drivers and see if results vary.

Also, an obvious but obligatory question: did you install the Mandrake 10.0 kernel source?

Sorry, that's all I can think of...

Tim

Yep. Guessing that the Man-Dork kernel source = The Bammies?

I followed the instructions here: http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/nvidiainst.html

and successfully got my Nvidia 3D card working perfectly under my new Mandrake 10.0

Hope this helps.

Not quite.

Alright, thanks for all the help guys. Apparently, Man-Dork didn't wanna realize that I did install the source. Quick rm, reinstall fixed things. Thank you!
