Dial-up modem problem redialing?
help - Dial-up modem problem redialing?
After I have ended a surfing session and have shut down the kppp Internet dial-up tool, and then awhile later I decide to go back on the net to surf again, the kppp dialing tool will not re-connect. In order for me to get around this problem I have been phisically turning the modem off and back on for the modem to reset before kppp will actually dial and make the connection. I'm sure that it's no more than a configure problem but I haven't found anything where anyone else has had the same problem. I never had this problem using the other operating system(the blue screen os). I had to temporally reinstall that other operating system to do my taxes and again I did not have the redialing problem. *This message is from a 100 % Microsoft free computer* |
OK cool - it sounds like your modem isn't hanging up at the end of a session, or isn't resetting at the start.
The modem initialisation string should start with "atz" (to reset) and the hangup string should be "ath". Check. One thing you could try, next time this happens, is # echo "atz" > /dev/modem |

Okay, I checked for the "atz" string and it was there at the start and
then I did the " # echo "atz" > /dev/modem " numerous times just to make sure, to no avail. Once more I looked over all the configuration for kppp, I found that the "line termination:" option was set to CR. I changed it to CR/LF. Now, when re-dialing it gets all the way into the handshake for about two seconds then stops(what it has always done). But now after the next time out, starts over again and completes the connection(this is new, and very good!). Thank you Simon Bridge, for taking the time to responding to my problem. It's not 100% but it is close. |
