Dial Up modem issue in Slackware 10.

I'm (at the moment) using a US Robotics Performance Pro modem ... which on the box says it supports linux. I'm running slackware 10 with a 2.4 kernel. I've tried several different dialup numbers...yet no matter what I try, it always connects at 9600 bps. Very slow... Yet on windows, I get about 53.2kbps always. I've used this modem on other distros in the past without a problem...and it actually usually ran faster in linux than windows.

I'm using Kppp to connect...what could be the problem?

Help very much apreciated.

Thanks.

Have you tried to tweak the AT commands? so to be in V90 or V92 mode
(change the init strings) there are sites for these
see http://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...threadid=302625
I have a relatively similar problem, unsolved to date
