device name change while using adaptec controller
Hi Everyone
I'm running RHEL4v4 on a HP xw8400 Workstation. The workstation has two 2-port ADAPTEC 39320A Ultra 320 SCSI cards. Attached to the SCSI ports are an Ultrium tape drive, and two additional detachable external disks.
My problem : when I have any of the external disks attached, the device name of my internal drive will change from /dev/sda to either /dev/sdb (if one external drive attached) or /dev/sdc (if two external drives attached). If no external drives exist, it will be /dev/sda.
I would like the name of the internal drive to always be /dev/sda regardless of the hardware config.
I read the ADAPTEC USERS GUIDE for the 39320A .. which gives instructions using the SCSI-SELECT option to disable the BIOS for the controller. We did this, but it did not help.
Do you think we should play with /etc/sysconfig/hwconf file ?
Any ideas or known gotchas ?
Thanks !
