dell xps M1530 - kubuntu 12.10: can't get the mic to work
Hi!
Since I installed kubuntu 12.04 (then updated to 12.10) I've been unable to get the mic to record a single word to any application (say, for example, skype).
Now I have no problem checking step by step wher the problem is but sound is so confusing (alsa, pulse, gstreamer, whatever) that I don't know where/how to check for things. Could you give me a hand?
This is what I can tell you. From dmesg:
Code:
[ 24.416346] input: HDA Intel Rear Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input11
[ 24.416482] input: HDA Intel Front Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input12
I'm wondering why it takes 24 long seconds to go through this but anyway, there it is.
Now if I go into alsamixer, I can see a lot of capture devices:
Code:
Card: HDA Intel F1: Help │
│ Chip: SigmaTel STAC9228 F2: System information │
│ View: F3: Playback F4:[Capture] F5: All F6: Select sound card │

So, it appears like the devices can be seen over there. Now, in skype I checked the sound configuration and it's all related to pulseaudio. So my next question would be: How can I make sure pulseaudio is actually working correctly with the mics?
Thanks in advance
