Dell Inspiron 8200 Fan replacement

I have lost one of my two fans for my laptop. I have found a vendor that still selss a replacement but for the life of me I cannot find a diagram or anything that says how to get into the laptop to replace it. Does anyone know of a link to somwhere that might show me how to get into the laptop ... especially targeting the fan area. I'd rather not go on blind.

thanks

Doug

To get the laptop open you need to remove all the screws underneath the laptop marked P and K. Once you do that, you have to (and I emphasize very carefully) snap off the pastic piece that wraps around the display mount. This plastic piece covers the buttons and the LEDs, just for reference. Once that plastic piece is off, you can remove the keyboard and the display. To remove the display you just remove the screws that are marked D which are visible from the back. Of course when you remove these things you also have to unsnap the connections so they can be moved elsewhere. The display connector ribbon has a separate "mount" you have to unscrew.

Once you have all that business done you should be able to see the fan housing. Part of it is this heat-sink-type apparatus. That is where my experience ends, unfortunately. All I know further from that is that the heat-sink-type thing has this (what looks like) copper tube that's fixed to the processor and attached to the heat sink. I would work very carefully around that and I wouldn't be able to tell you where to begin removing it.

But at least you'll be able to open up the machine to get a good look at it. Good luck and let us know how you do.

EDIT: The same phillips-head screwdriver should be able to do all that... but like I said I don't know about removing the fans.

EDIT 2: This should just about do it for you: http://docs.us.dell.com/support/edoc...0/en/index.htm

Thanks so much. The manual looks great. I am just wondering if I actually have ot remove all the cards attached to the motherboard since I am removing the whole thing to get to the fan but I'll do as instructed.

thanks so much
