Just got X11 installed with awesomewm on my roomate's laptop, and it's working great ... except his touchpad isn't working at all.
I got help from #ArchLinux on freenode, and read the ArchWiki page on the topic: http://tr.im/k4sh?archlinux
unfortunately, that didn't change anything.
I'm running Arch Linux 2009/02, on Linux kernel 126.96.36.199-4, with Xorg-server 1.6.1-1 and awesomewm 3.3pre20090421-1.
