Dell cd drive not working

Hello,

I have a Dell Optiplex 210L that I installed fedora 8 on. I am having problems with cd drive. Basically when I try to place a disc in the drive it doesn't read MOST discs.

In fact this is such a problem even when i installed the system i had to hook up another cd drive to the system to in order to install fedora in the first place. The cd drive attempts to read most disc but it doesn't work for most, however i put the fedora rescue disc in and it is somehow able to read that one. I can tell that the drive is trying to read the disc though.

Initially i though it was just a bad drive, but i another dell with the same exact hardware as the first system and the same thing happened, which leads me to believe that it maybe a driver issue.

i went to dell's website but they didn't have anything for the cd rom drives.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the problem.

Any time I have had a similar situation it has been the cd drive, if you are sure the cd drive is good you might try replacing the cable.
