Definition of a term in the context of optical disc authoring.

Hi:
I have run a CD/DVD burner program (cdrecord) on a blank DVD and I got the following message.

Code:
WARNING: Phys disk size 1823462 differs from rzone size 0! Prerecorded disk?
WARNING: Phis start: 196608 Phys end: 2020099
What can the program be referring to with "prerecorded disk"? Thanks in advance.

That would probably mean a R/RW disc that already has something burned onto it.

If the burner works despite this message, ignore it.

Hi:

I disagree with you. Having been doing some searching, I found this:
Quote:
PHYSICAL, LOGICAL AND FILE SYSTEM STANDARDS

What writable DVD formats are available?
There are five kinds of writable DVD technology (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW an
d DVD-RAM). Similar to CD-Recordable (CD-R), DVD-R and DVD+R discs are write-onc
e incorporating a dye recording layer to which information is irreversibly writt
en by means of a laser heating and altering it to create a pattern of marks mimi
cking the pits of a prerecorded (pressed/molded) DVD.
I think this excerpt speaks by itself. That is, only a factory can press/mold discs, I think. All the best.

P.S.: punto y aparte (Spanish idiomatic expression), it was purely fortuitous I landed on tha website. The odds were I could have been whole years trying to elucidate this doubt of mine without any results. Or perchance, the old saying, persevere and you'll triumph (another expression of Spanish lineage), applies here.
