DecTalk Breakingup Mplayer Sound?

While I am listening to streams or other
content in mplayer, I am listening
to my e-mail with a DecTalk USB.
My screen-reader is speakup.
Soon after Pine begins reading, the mp3 or live
stream breaksup--and-later resumes.
I am running an mp3blaster with alsa.
I suppose this could be a strictly mplayer issue,
as when trying trplayer, all works well.
I think trplayer was written for we who are blind,
so there are no graphics, but mplayer takes
alot longer to load.
Can some1 please provide a fix so I can read-and-
listen to audio at the same time--thanks so much in advance
