Debian unstable, hardware upgrade.
 

I have debian unstable instaled and running very well on my current computer, but next week I'll upgrade it, what ar e the steps to prepare the system for a "drastic" upgrade (ie. motherboard, cpu, mem, and so on) I'm affraid it won't find the video card, NIC, etc.

Current System:
CPU: Athlon 1600+
MB: Soyo K7vta-pro
RAM: 512MB

Future:
CPU: Athlon 64 3200+
MB: Asus A8v-d
RAM: 1GB

I won't be using debian as 64 bits yet, this will be the next step :)

I guess the main thing is to have the video and NIC drivers ready to go before you swap. Almost certainly it will come up OK in text mode, but you probably want net access and a browser to help sort out any problems.

Alternatively, have a live CD like Knoppix handy, which will probably sort out your hardware automatically and show you what you need, as well as giving you net access.

But beware - if your m/b is really new you might have a problems with some things (like the NIC maybe), and Knoppix may not necessarily have drivers. You can increase your chances by getting the latest version of course.

I hadn't to do anything!

Debian recognized everything by itself, it's working like a charm.
Onboard sound, NIC, VGA, USB and even the TVcard got detected on first boot.

Another point to linux!
