Debian net install on laptop

Hey, hope someone can help, i have a toshiba tecra 550cdt, with a netgear pcmcia network card ( uses the tulip driver i think ) anyway i downloaded the Debian netinstall boot cd, go through the install process, when i tell it to configure pcmcia, it works fine, my pcmcia card network activity lights come on and it beeps a few times, everything looks good, so then i have to set up the network parameters so i can do a net install, well i get all the way through the net config, but the last question is something about setting the card to 10baseT or auto or blank or 10baseT2. once i choose one, the computer acts like its about to go back to the configuration screen so i can carry on, but then it just freezes.
Hope this isnt to terribly long, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
