debian display config
I used the tool dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 to set up my video settings. I told it to only use 800x600 as the resolution. It will only come up as 640x480. How do I fix this? Here is the config file:

"1024x768" in front of "800x600" as such
SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection |
No... That doesn't work. Anyone else?

in redhat there is Xconfigurator or something like that
in debian you have dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 slack prob has something like this - |
This isn't about slack... my computer with slackware is fine :)
The problem is configuring using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86. I told it to allow higher resolutions and it doesn't. I know my monitor is capable of higher resolutions and I had my video settings at 800x600 with 16 bit color in windows. |
after resetting it are you seeing "1024x768" anywhere in the config file? is it being written ok?
|
Yes. It is being written in the xf86config-4 file.
|
go to irc.debian.org #debian and ask.
sorry to busy to help at the moment. |
check /var/log/XFree86.0.log and maybe ~/.xsession-errors
Try to see if the X server is reporting any conflicts. |
/var/log/XFree86.0.log said my horizontal refresh rate was off. After some googling (no manual) I found my monitor (14" CTX CVP-5468NI) needed a horizontal refresh rate of 44.0-50.0 and a vertical refresh rate of 50.0-90.0. All supported resolutions now work correctly. Yeah!
