DCA-510 (Siemens USB Data Cable) - not claimed by any active driver.

Hi!

I am trying to get a gprs internet connection to work with my Siemens DCA-510 USB Data Cable linked to my my Siemens C55 phone (the cable also works with the A60, C60, C62, M/MC55 M/MC60, S55 and SL55 series).

I have tried USB Modem (CDC ACM) support and USB Serial Converter support with USB Generic Serial Driver.

But I always get the following message at startup:

usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x67b/0x2303) is not claimed by any active driver.

here is the the /var/log/messages output:

Thank you!

Well, I would guess that all you need is a program to use with it now.

Usually that is just the kernel reporting that it isn't claimed by any other modules.
and loads the module corresponding to the device.

Try looking for a program.

What would you do with a phone like that, browse the internet?

Ahaa.

Well, that would be pppd. The gsm is used like a normal modem, but its cheaper.

I tried pppd with different ports /dev/ttyUSBx and /dev/ttyACMx without any response.

/var/log/messages just says:

Mar 31 13:30:52 hihihi pppd[576]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Mar 31 13:30:52 hihihi pppd[576]: Exit.

/var/log/ppp-connect-errors is empty...

I got the driver working by checking the usb ids from http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids :

067b Prolific Technology, Inc.
2303 PL2303 Serial Port

and loaded usbserial module with them:

modprobe usbserial vendor=0x67b product=0x2303

and /var/log/messages says:

Mar 31 18:07:43 hihihi kernel: usb.c: registered new driver serial
Mar 31 18:07:43 hihihi kernel: usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
Mar 31 18:07:43 hihihi kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter detected
Mar 31 18:07:43 hihihi kernel: usbserial.c: Generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
Mar 31 18:07:43 hihihi kernel: usbserial.c: USB Serial Driver core v1.4

BUT, the actually gprs connection still isnt working.

/var/log/messages :

Mar 31 18:09:58 hihihi pppd[725]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
Mar 31 18:09:58 hihihi pppd[725]: Removed stale lock on ttyS0 (pid 635)

Mar 31 18:10:44 hihihi chat[727]: Failed
Mar 31 18:10:45 hihihi pppd[725]: Exit.

The chat -v mode isnt telling me enough. How can I see the FULL output of the chatscript?

I have a Siemens ME45 and tried witht the serial cable, and GPRS works without a glitch. Trying with the USB cable, it sometimes works, but most of the time does not. It seems that the driver PL2303 is buggy with Linux versions lower than 2.5 from what I understand.

Still inquiring on my side.
