Data retrieval - HELP!

I made a big mistake.

In short, I didn't back up my files and now they're stuck on a harddrive. On the technical side, I was trying to install Win XP to get a Wi-Fi card that I'd just bought to work, and, since M$FT doesn't follow the same partitioning scheme that we do, it tricked me into deleting the partition with all of my very important files on it. It was an ext3 running Redhat. My MBR's gone (no LILO) and the partition is unmountable from a liveCD that I had lying around.

Does anyone know how I could possibly recover these files? I was thinking dd might be used, but I honestly have no experience in data archeaology. A little help please?

Nevermind...

Ok, FYI, wierdest thing. Somehow, my other partition, running Gentoo, automatically mounts the Redhat one on /, so all I had to do was mount the Gentoo one. I have no idea why it would do this.
