D.O.D. C.A.C. Card reader / Firefox registration

Has anyone set up a common access card reader yet for fc 11. I went through the tutorials on Ubuntu's forum web site and no dice. IF any one knows how to do this please pass on the resources used to set it up, or post the steps here. Also I would like to be able to log in with the cac card.

I would like to request a good how to, to this section on this topic. Army knowledge Online is complicated to navigate to find the info you need to do this. Plus the Army runs windows and not so much on linux.

BTW the card reader worked in Ubuntu after some minor work.

What exactly is the problem you are having? You say the card reader itself is working, but "no dice" is not a very useful diagnosis of what failure you are actually experiencing.

I do not know what happened, but I reloaded the os via the dvd iso and now it works out of the box. all I needed to do was

find / -name libcoolkeypk11.so

to locate libcoolkey for firefox 3.5. Then I loged in to ako without a hitch.

Next I would like to set up my laptop with cac log on.

Why would you want to set up a reader for a Department of Defense Common Access Card using Linux? Is this for official business DoD business? If so, have you gone through your NCC security and technical support folks for assistance? If there is a need to connect a Linux box to a DoD network or even to be used as a standalone box for whatever purpose, there a plenty of steps that need to be met for such to happen, and this would include having the proper technical expertise in place to address issues such as yours. Just asking as a former Air Force Inspector General IT security inspector...

Yes and no. I do all of my reserve stuff on this laptop and I am also studying for the RHEL exam. Lastly I do not want to run windows on this box. A lot of my army stuff that I do I would like to keep secure as much as possible. I do have info that could be considered FOUO.

The army thinks I do not need a laptop for my mission, as it turns out I do. So I adapted and over came and fixed a laptop that was suitable for my tasks. Getting on the mil net is not needed, because if i do they (the army) will then acquire a new laptop that I am not ready to give up yet.
