hate d-link too...they are as unreliable as the onboard intel 8series ... flaky as all get out....I suggest a hot fire and see what temp the board actually melts at...the netgear or linksys will do fine...i actually used the FA310 driver for my FA311 card, and it seems to work fine.
This thread has turned into quite a D-Link bash ! I'm sure Hoglicious has his/her reason for running RH 7.3, but I would hazard a guess that a recent version of any of the major distro's would handle this nic without having to resort to wizardry.
D-Link probably changes chipset mfg to maintain a price point. I have the same nic mentioned here (sundance chipset) as well as an ADSL modem and switch from this mfg and it has been smooth sailing in MDK 9 and 9.1.
sorry for not getting back sooner...have had to relocate do to work related failure...i failed to have any more work...the PnP can also be an issue, as I had to turn that off with my D-Link, but the netgear solved the problem on the Dell Dimension 2350...popped it in, loaded up RedHat 8 and off we went...so I am a little at a loss why yours didn't work...anything in the syslog?
I'm done with the D-Link, and I'm trying to get the Netgear to work. I'm running 7.3, so that might be why it's not recognizing it. I'm trying to upgrade to 9.0, but the RH ftp sites are always busy. I have 2 of the iso files, I just need one more and I'll upgrade. I'm hoping then that the card will be recognized and I'll be done.
BTW, I'm having problems getting into my BIOS. When my PC boots up I hit the 'Del' key constantly, but it never switches over. Are there any other ways to get to the BIOS?
