CUPS: adding a printer isn't enough

I'm getting started in Linux and trying to make my printer run. It's a Lexmark Z35, and I've installed it using CUPS. When I try to print the test page it displays: "usb port busy..."

mario@nb-mac:~ $ dmesg | grep print
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status

After that, the /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/syslog files fills up my disk with the error you see above.

Any clue about how to manage this problem?
