Angry Creative Zen Vision M and VMware

My friend just bought a Creative Zen Vision M recently. We attempted to get things rolling by opening up VMware and a winxp guest system and installing the software and drivers. That was done successfully.

The problem is: Everytime we go to sync with the mp3 player, windows restarts!

Any idea on how to fix this?
Your help is very much appreciated!

Creative ZEN Vision M anf Vmware

Hello

I had the exact same problem when I first got my ZEN M (I also am running SUSE 10.1 as the host OS). The issue has to do with the way that VMware handles USB. The VMware drivers treat all USB connections to the Guest operating system (XP) as USB 1.2 connections. This causes a conflict with some USB 2.0 devices, in this case the ZEN, and can lead to rebooting and other unwanted behavior in your system. The solution is to get an old USB 1.1 hub. This forces the connection to the ZEN to operate at the correct speed and will allow you to transfer content to and from your ZEN. This same trick will solve most other USB connection problems to VMware workstation and player.

Hope this helps

Windows XP does not do well with VMware's USB 2.0 because Windows XP handles USB differently than what is expected. I suggest using Windows 98. By running Windows 98, USB 2.0 will work with out any problems. I also tried using a virtual machine of Linux and I have no problems. I think Windows 2000 has the same problem as Windows XP.

Incorrect and it is the opposite. Windows 2000 and Windows XP uses different ways to handle USB. Like I said above, use Windows 98 instead.
