Creative Zen V Plus/MTP/UMS/linux support

So in trying to get a new mp3 player I picked up this Creative Zen V plus, which looked pretty good. However, it appears it only supports MTP transfers (though I read some person claimed they "shut it off" but I don't know how). At first my reading suggested that that is a deal breaker. However I've noticed there is a libmtp out there. Nothing comes up in Amarok, and the device doesn't appear to load as an actual device - not /dev/sda*. I also noticed there was something called the kzenexplorer, which doesn't do much more than flash "No jukebox found" and go away - not much help there.

So - is mtp supported at all? Is it available in only limited ways? Do I need to bring this thing back for a refund? Or is there some hope that it is useful in some way other than keeping paper weighted down.

By the way I'm using an averatec 1050 laptop with suse 10.1, recently updated with the latest packages. My /var/log/messages reports:

Having recently just been given a Zen V Plus I have taken the time to get everything working under linux.
I had to obtain the latest source releases of libnjb, libmtp and gnomad2 as the versions in my distro were too old to support the Zen V. (libnjb is not used actually but it's a pre-req for gnomad2).
Once these were compiled and installed everything works very well. There are some issues with gnomad2 when closing a session after a lot of uploads but that seems to go away if you disconnect the USB cable and then reconnect it again.
Bye for now
Andre

I have Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) and have tried what 'amgauthier' did (i.e. install libnjb, libmtp and gnomad2). My cheap Macvision mp3 player works just fine, but the Zen V is still not recognized by my USB. I have Win2K at work and Linux at home; hence, I have no use for a product that only supports Win XP. It's much easier to return this product and get something that is supported by more that JUST ONE operating system.

The MTP players work just fine in linux. I wrote up something for tux magazine about it...but it never got published (it shut down).

But all you need is libmtp and amarok and voila! it works flawlessly (i think it even includes album art transfers now!!)

Creative Zen V Plus works fine with Mandriva 2007 using the libmtp0 and libmtp0-devel rpms from the installation disc. Add a media player in Amarok settings - I used the MTP player config successfully.

kzenexplorer question

I thought I completed a successful install of kzenexplorer and it's required libraries. However when I attempt run the program from the command line I get the following error message:

/kzenexplorer-0.6/src> ./kzenexplorer
kzenexplorer: QuickStart=false
:/kzenexplorer-0.6/src> kzenexplorer: setupActions
kzenexplorer: WARNING: KXMLGUIClient::setXMLFile: cannot find .rc file kzenexplorerui.rc
kzenexplorer: readGlobalProperties
kzenexplorer: readConfig
kzenexplorer: Library=/home/mark/Documents/
kzenexplorer: SavePath=%artist/%album
kzenexplorer: SaveName=%artist-%title
kzenexplorer: ShowDetailsArtist=true
kzenexplorer: ShowDetailsAlbum=true
kzenexplorer: ShowDetailsGenre=true
kzenexplorer: ShowDetailsPlayList=true
kzenexplorer: SmartImport=true
kzenexplorer: connectNJB
But the kzenexplorerui.rc file is located right there it the /src subdirectory. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks.
