copy proprietary driver files, how?
I am new to Linux, sawing off Micro$oft's ball and chain but still dependent. As you could imagine it's hardware issues. My first distro was linspire 5.0, it worked on both desktop PC and laptop except neither could run winmodem. One time I did live linspire cd boot and my Lucent winmodem worked on my desktop. I disliked linspire's single mindedness (like M$oft but without support) so I tried Knoppix 4.0 (accelerated version 1.0). With Knoppix everything on my desktop PC worked except winmodem. Same with Kubuntu (ubuntu gnome looks like something designed for kids, sorry!), while on my laptop(toshiba tecra 8000) knoppix, kubuntu and ubuntu had screen resolution problem where 1 inch vertical slab on right part of screen was unrecognized (ignored or dead to the system). So I was thinking if I could copy drivers from Linspire CD to knoppix, kubuntu , yeah even ubuntu.
Or is it possible to Ndiswrapp all windows winmodem and display drivers.
Or if anyone knows of a Linux distro made for winmodems and wlan cards.
I don't know how to solve your display problems, but you might be able to find drivers for your winmodem here.
