Continious problems with nvidia driver installing

Hello. I seem to be having many problems with the nvidia drivers. After I installed the driver (from the Debian repositories) and I still seem to experience a lag when moving windows, and KDE will not let me add some of their desktop effects (ex. the cube effect).

Let me just go over what I have tried. First, I have tried to install the drivers from the driver on nvidia's web site. I will not explain how long it took me to disable the nouveau driver, and get the install file to even run. When I did get the file to run, it told me the gcc check failed and my kernel was compiled with 4.6 and I have 4.7.

Later, I headed over to Debian's own support files, and did the installation as it had said to (from the debian repositories). Now, after I thought I had it working, the desktop still has the same lag as it has before. I really don't get it. Am I doing something wrong, or did nouveau just start itself instead of the nvidia driver?

I will be more than happy to give any of the logs that any of the installers have created, but I sort of forgot where the exact files are.

Also note that I am running Debian with KDE.

Also, I did research it a lot, but I seem not to find the exact answer. Also, should I put this in the 'newbie' section, or maybe the 'software' forum?

Oops, forgot to add this:

if I go into terminal, I can go into the Nvidia settings by typing:

Code:
$ nvidia-settings
So I am almost positive that it is installed, but just not running. Hope this helps.
