Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Configuring SB live 24B on Suse 10

Hi to the Board

Can anyone help with the above. I can only get 2:1 sound as opposed to 5:1 sound. I have tried alsaconf, and then turned up all the volume controls in alsamixer and then alsactl store. When I go into YAST under System>Sound, it has two entries:

CA0106
Configured as sound card number
Driver snd-ca0106

Not configured SB0410 SBLive! 24-Bit.

When I try to configure the SB card, I am told "The kernal module snd--ca0106 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters".

Indeed, when I try to use YAST to delete the CA0106 entry it wont let me. Some help on this would be gratefully received as I am missing my 5:1 sound (the two speakers which do work sound awful, by the way).

Incidentally, I have tried the same card on suse 9.3. Again I have only 2:1 sound, even tho in alsamixer it shows volume controls for all speakers (as does 10.0). Further, Suse 9.3 configures my sound card as a SB Live LS. Is my card not properly supported???

I would be extremely grateful for a fix (aimed at a Noob!) for either Suse 10 or Suse 9.3 - It really has come to that!!!

*stumped*

Thanks in advance on this. Cheers!
