Configuring master volume control for Intel ICH5 Alsa

I'm currently running Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy with a 2.6.17-11 kernel the sound card in question is Intel 82801EB/ER ICH5/ICH5R AC'97. I'm looking for a solution to changing the volume controls in Kmix as right now Master volume is for the headphones, Headphone volume is for the laptop speakers, and as far as i can tell PCM is the master any way to correct this? I have working sound and lspci | grep -i audio detects my card its just a matter of convience as this is the only thing i have to work out to having a perfectly configured Distro on my Dell Inspiron XPS gen I.

Soon to be completely rid of M$ Windows thank god.
Thanks in advanced.
