Configure a Webcam-Logitech QuickCam Express on openSUSE 11.2

Puzzled...

My old Logitech QuickCam Express webcam is listed as being supported by the gspca2 driver. I followed these instructions, but the installation wizard for 11.2 failed to install the driver. I could install the Software Repository however, and installed the package through YaST.

http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Web_Cameras

The webcam is found as a UBS device with the right identification, using "lsusb".

Code:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:0840 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express
The results of "lsmod" seem to say that the driver is installed as it should be with the correct module being loaded.

Code:

gspca_stv06xx          35024  0
gspca_main            32072  1 gspca_stv06xx
videodev              46848  1 gspca_main
v4l1_compat            19020  1 videodev
v4l2_compat_ioctl32    12776  1 videodev

Among other things, I installed Gnome Cheese as a test application, and Cheese shows a full color test pattern. Cheese operates the webcam, taking a nice picture of that test pattern.

The webcam functions in Windows XP, and seems to function as a device in openSUSE 11.2, but I don't know how to proceed to configure it to produce an image. Neither does Google.

Hopefully someone does...

Try qc-usb. (http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/) It says that it works for your device id.

You won't be able to get it from YaST, but the directions for building it seem pretty straightforward. If you have trouble building post back--I've gotten help building drivers from LQ folks before.

Good Luck!
