I want to install Debian on my old computer because my old computer's CD Drive is wrecked and on Debian's website it seems very easy to install without.
It says I can make abunch of floppy disks, that will let me install Debian from
the internet. But it says I need to know my computers architecture.
I don't really know what it is. Can someone tell me.
I have a Celeron 400mhz processor
256 megs of ram, (originally had 64, but I upgraded awhile ago)
6 gig hard drive. Was made to run Windows 98.
The computers architecture they give is:
Alpha
Arm
hppa
i386
ia64
m68k
mips
mipsel
powerpc
s390
sparc

This is definitely i386. Celeron is just an successor of i386 (which itself is a successor of 8088 of early eighties) and binary compatible with it.

And as a very general comment, for PC's, assume i386 unless you know for a fact that you're using something different (and if you were using, say, a Sparc machine, you'd know it). If you've got any kind of Intel Pentium/Celeron or AMD CPU (exluding the new 64 bit models) you'll be safe with i386. Welcome to LQ and good luck with the installation. -- J.W.
