Hi cgtueno, thanks for the thorough post. I think the problem was the nvidia proprietary driver, because the system hasn't frozen since I switched to nouveau (and it's been more than one week now). Anyway, if the system freezes again, I will try measuring the PSU voltages as well as the other suggestions in this thread.
